01Product Overview & Specifications
ASTM A572 Grade 50 is a widely used high-strength low-alloy (HSLA) Ni-V / Columbium-Vanadium structural steel. As the most popular grade in the A572 series (including GR42, GR50, GR60 and GR65), it delivers high strength-to-weight ratio, excellent structural rigidity and moderate atmospheric corrosion resistance.
Compared with ordinary carbon steel, A572 Grade 50 requires less material to meet the same load-bearing standard, effectively reducing structural weight and construction cost. It is suitable for riveting, bolting and welding fabrication. Though cold forming demands higher force than mild steel, it supports stable bending and shaping with reliable consistency — the preferred HSLA steel for high-strength structural projects worldwide.

A572 Grade 50 can be supplied with four alternative micro-alloying types (columbium-vanadium options):
Type I — Nb
Columbium (Nb) micro-alloyed: 0.005 – 0.05%.
Type II — V
Vanadium micro-alloyed: 0.01 – 0.15%.
Type III — Nb + V
Combined Nb and V micro-alloying: 0.02 – 0.15%.
Type IV — N
Nitrogen alloyed: ≤0.05%, with vanadium at a V:N ratio of 1/4.
Note: Composition limits vary with product thickness per ASTM A572 (limits for thickness above 40 mm differ from the tabulated values). The exact heat analysis and micro-alloy type of each plate are stated in its Mill Test Certificate (MTC) supplied with delivery.
