BP600 adopts ultra-pure smelting technology: oxygen converter or electric furnace smelting plus external refining, achieving ultra-low impurity content and uniform and dense metallographic structure, ensuring ultra-stable batch ballistic performance for top-level protection requirements.
Complete Process Route: Smelting → External refining → Continuous casting → Controlled rolling & controlled cooling hot rolling → Powerful straightening & plate cutting → Precision heat treatment

Machining & Professional Welding Suggestions
As the hardest grade in BP series, BP600 has the highest carbon equivalent and the strictest processing requirements, requiring standardized professional operation.
Cutting: Water jet cutting is highly recommended to completely retain the original edge ballistic performance. Laser cutting and plasma cutting are acceptable for efficient processing.
Machining: Highest hardness level in BP series. HSS-E / HSS-Co or full cemented carbide drill bits are mandatory for drilling. Cemented carbide coated or ceramic alloy tools are preferred for milling to improve cutting stability.
Welding Reminder: BP600 has the highest CEV and narrowest welding process window in the BP series. Strict process control is required: recommended welding heat input 1.5–2.5 kJ/mm, low-hydrogen welding materials adoption, and complete pre-heating & post-heating process qualification.
Hot Working: Secondary hot processing is not recommended. Any heat treatment adjustment must be confirmed by Baosteel R&D team.
