01Product Overview
ASTM A131 Grade FH36 is a high-strength, low-temperature marine structural steel made to ASTM A131 / A131M. It is supplied as shipbuilding steel plate and sheet for hulls, decks and offshore structures that must keep toughness at −60°C. Every plate is normalized, and a mandatory Charpy V-notch impact test at −60°C is performed with the result recorded in the Mill Test Certificate.
As an F-grade plate, FH36 is the coldest-service member of the A131 high-strength family — rated one step below the E-grade (−40°C) used on most ice-class vessels, and well below the D-grade (−20°C) and A-grade (ambient) plates.

04Welding Performance Parameters
Cold-crack sensitivity is controlled through the carbon equivalent and crack-sensitivity indicators below. Final welding procedure is qualified against the actual heat.

Note: Pcm and Ceq vary with the actual composition of each heat; we provide the exact values from the MTC and recommend a qualified WPS (preheat / interpass temperature) for thick plates.
