EN 10083-3 50CrMo4 is a premium quenched and tempered alloy structural steel belonging to the high-performance heat-treatable grades. Compared with the similar grade 50H, 50CrMo4 adds molybdenum, delivering far better hardness, wear resistance and structural stability under extreme loads.

With reliable anti-bending, anti-twisting, anti-abrasion and high-load resistance, 50CrMo4 is engineered for high-strength vehicle and mechanical components that withstand severe dynamic loads. It offers stable hardenability and excellent mechanical uniformity after heat treatment, supplied as plates, round bars, flat bars, forgings and profiles.

50 — Carbon Content

Indicates a mean carbon content of approximately 0.50% (100 × C%) for high hardness after hardening.

Cr

Cr — Chromium

Chromium improves hardenability, hardness and wear resistance of the heat-treated steel.

Mo

Mo — Molybdenum

Molybdenum raises high-temperature strength, hardenability and structural stability; absent in the 50H grade.

Sequence / quality index within the DIN heat-treatable steel family, distinguishing it from other Cr-Mo grades.

50CrMo4 vs 50H: Both are ~0.50% carbon heat-treatable steels, but 50H contains no molybdenum. The Mo addition gives 50CrMo4 markedly better hardenability, wear resistance and stability under extreme load, making it the preferred choice for severe dynamic-load components.
