EN 10083-3 51CrV4 is a high-strength quenched and tempered spring alloy steel, compliant with EN 10089 (spring steels) and EN 10083-3 (heat-treatable steels). Indicates a mean carbon content of approximately 0.51% (100 × C%) for high strength and hardenability.

Cr

Cr — Chromium

Chromium improves hardenability, hardness and wear resistance of the heat-treated steel.

V — Vanadium

Vanadium refines the grain, raises fatigue resistance and toughness — the key differentiator of this spring steel (absent in plain Cr grades).
