BP440 is a high-hardness high-strength ballistic armor steel independently developed by Baosteel, designed for higher-level bulletproof protection scenarios compared with conventional BP300 grade. Production Process & Delivery State
BP440 ballistic steel is ultra-clean killed steel produced by oxygen converter or electric furnace smelting with external refining, effectively reducing internal inclusions and ensuring uniform and dense metallographic structure.
1. Complete Process Route: Smelting → External refining → Continuous casting → Controlled rolling & controlled cooling hot rolling → Powerful straightening & plate cutting → Professional heat treatment
2. Delivery State: Available in controlled rolling (AR), quenched, and quenched & tempered (Q+T) states to meet different ballistic protection and machining requirements.
3. Ballistic Performance Guarantee: Anti-ballistic indicators are customized and confirmed by contract. We can provide authoritative shooting test verification reports and stable actual ballistic performance data.
Machining & Processing Suggestions
1. Cutting: Water jet cutting is highly recommended to completely retain the original ballistic performance of cutting edges. Laser cutting and plasma cutting are applicable. Mechanical shearing is optional when the equipment has sufficient rigidity and power.
2. Machining: Due to higher hardness than BP300 grade, high-speed steel or cemented carbide drill bits are recommended for drilling operations. Cemented carbide coated tools are preferred for milling to improve processing efficiency and surface finish.
3. Hot Working: Secondary hot processing is not recommended. If special heat treatment adjustment is required, technical communication and confirmation with Baosteel R&D team is mandatory.
