  Ramor 450 is a unique medium-hardness protection steel developed by SSAB. It perfectly balancesballistic resistance and extreme impact toughness. As the only grade in the Ramor series with official guaranteed full mechanical values and -40°C low-temperature impact performance, it fills the performance gap between Ramor 400 and Ramor 500. Ideal for structures that need to resist both bullet penetration and blast spalling from mines and IEDs.

  Processing & Usage Guidelines

  •   Heat Treatment: Delivered in quenched state. No re-heat treatment allowed. Performance will be invalid if heated over 180°C.
  •   Cold Bending: Better bending performance than Ramor 500. Suitable for forming structural parts with moderate bending requirements.
  •   Cutting: Laser, plasma and waterjet cutting are applicable. Waterjet cutting is preferred to retain original ballistic edge performance.
  •   Welding: Compatible with conventional welding methods. Austenitic welding consumables are recommended with strict low-hydrogen control and stable heat input.
  •   Machining: Use carbide tools, rigid clamping and sufficient lubrication to avoid vibration and extend tool life.
  •   Safety Notice: Cutting and grinding produce fine steel dust; professional protective equipment is required during operation.

  Typical Applications

  Ramor 450 is specially engineered for composite protection scenarios requiring both bulletproof and blast-resistant performance:

  •   Armored vehicle floors and doors (resist mine and IED explosion impact)
  •   Anti-riot vehicle structural panels and protective columns
  •   High-toughness safety cabins and mobile protective shelters
  •   Intermediate buffer layer for composite armor structures (between Ramor 400 and Ramor 500)
  •   Anti-spall and anti-explosion security structural components

  Note: Ramor 450 is not listed in standard EN 1522 / NIJ thickness comparison tables. It is applied based on structural toughness requirements rather than single ballistic grade matching.
