01Product Overview & Specifications
API 5L PSL2 X42 (also named L290N) is a classic low-to-medium strength carbon steel line pipe widely applied in the global petroleum and natural gas transportation industry. As a grade in the API 5L specification series (including A25, A, B, X42, X46, X52, X60, X65, X70 and X80), X42 features a minimum yield strength of 42 Ksi (290 MPa), delivering stable pressure resistance for conventional oil, gas and water transmission.
Compared with PSL1 grade, API 5L PSL2 X42 implements stricter chemical composition control, mandatory CVN impact testing and non-destructive testing standards, making it suitable for conventional and medium-standard petroleum and natural gas transmission scenarios. 02API 5L Grade Series & Delivery Conditions
X42 sits at the lower end of the API 5L X-series strength ladder — the grade number indicates the minimum yield strength in Ksi, which is why X42 is also designated L290 (290 MPa).
